Shields Plaza

Shields Plaza is an existing three-story multi-family apartment building with an elevator consisting of 49 units, with a mix of 47 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom units, located at 6100 Cedar Street in North Branch, MN. Built in 1978, 100% of the units are Project-Based Section 8.  Shields Plaza is income-restricted to households at or below 30%-50% AMI, and is age-restricted to seniors 62+ and people with disabilities (as per HUD guidelines). After rehabilitation these restrictions will continue. New Generations LLC will provide referral services and activities for all residents as resources allow, once rehabilitation is complete.

Funding sources include 4% LIHTC, a Minnesota Housing bonds allocation, and funding from Chisago County.,

There have been no major renovations of Shields Plaza since it was built in 1978. The rehabilitation will include complete renovation of resident unit bathrooms and kitchens, and significant upgrades to common and outdoor spaces, keeping Shields Plaza an important housing resource for the area’s senior residents.

Shields Plaza is located just north of the central/downtown area of North Branch, providing its residents with convenient access to services, local and chain food options, shopping, local transit service to other cities in Chisago County, and green space. Shields Plaza’s proximity to both Highways 95 and Interstate 35 allow for easy access to Minneapolis-Saint Paul and other points to the east and west.
